How to score 7.0+ Band Score in IELTS without coaching by- Pushkal Kesri
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English Test conducted throughout the year for people who are preparing to go English speaking countries for education, immigration, and work. In this candidates are marked upon the band score they get out of 9.0. There are two types of tests one designed for Academic Purpose and the other for General Purpose. I got a band score of 7.0 in Academic IELTS which is considered a good score and is an acceptable score in top institutions globally. Today I will share the tips which I used to prepare for my IELTS exam.
I prepared a schedule in which I divided my time between Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. I would recommend a book by Barron Publishers authored by Lin Lougheed. This book also contains a CD which helps with the listening part. This book has Chapters dedicated to each part of the test. At last, there are six sample papers to practice which really gears up the preparation for the actual test. In Listening, there needs to be pin-drop concentration as the audio is played only once and the answer to questions is quite indirect. Listening, there is a lot of scope of using logic for answering the questions. The question would be of various types from fill in the blanks, match the following, MCQ, etc. There will be 30 minutes in this section, so the answers must be precise and accurate with keeping the time in mind.
In the Reading section, I would advise reading the questions first as it saves a lot of time compared to reading the passage first. The questions would be easy; the main challenge is to do the reading section in time. Likewise from the listening section, the question would be of several types as mentioned in the listening section. The passages could range from historical events to climate change. To get a good score in this section, time-management is necessary. There would be four passages and there will 60 minutes for this section. As per me, 10-12 minutes should be spent on each passage to save time for revising answers.
In the writing section, you will be given two tasks. In the first task, you would be given a bar graph, pie chart, or any graphical representation in which you have to describe it in more than 150 words. IELTS advises you to spend at most 20 minutes on this task and it matters 33% of the value in the writing section. In the second task, you will be given a statement in which you have to write whether you agree or disagree with that statement. You should paraphrase the statement and then have two body paragraphs and a concluding point. You have to write at least 250 words on it. I advise spending 30-35 minutes on it and 15-18 minutes on task 1. You will be tested upon your grammatical accuracy, content.
On the speaking part, you will be asked several questions related to the personal aspect at the beginning. In the second task, you will be asked to speak upon the topic for a minute or so. In the third and final task, the examiner will discuss with you the various worldly topics. The task will be for between 11-14 minutes. You will be marked upon your fluency & cohesion, pronunciation, and grammatical accuracy. To practice for you need to speak in front of a mirror to get to know your confidence and facial expression to have a more comfortable speaking test.
That is all from me I wish you all the best!
